Thursday, June 11, Expo Milano 2015 is hosting the National Day of the Holy See. The celebrations will be divided mainly into two sessions: one at 11:00 with the conference "Not By Bread Alone” and the other at 16:30 with the meeting "The Faces of the Earth - Praised be you our Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth".
The program of events
Participants to the event held at 11:00 - "Not By Bread Alone" - are Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, Commissioner General of the Holy See, Monsignor Angelo Becciu, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, and Cardinal Angelo Scola, Archbishop of Milan. The title of the meeting resumes the theme of the Holy See Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015. The theme that will be discussed is the production and preparation of food and the act of eating seen as a moment of education. The morning of the event will be enriched with a concert by the symphonic orchestra Esagramma playing the Pontifical Anthem and other pieces. This choir is born from the experience of the Center for clinical research and training for psychological and mental discomfort that centers its activity on the potential of the language of music.
A "Franciscan" afternoon
The second session will also take place at Expo Milano 2015 in the Auditorium, at 16:30. The meeting is called: "The Faces of the Earth - Praised be you, our Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth" and recalls a famous verse of the "Canticle of the Creatures" by Saint Francis. The theme will be the contrast between the fecund and positive image of mother earth, of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and the worst disaster that still afflicts us - the insufficiency of food and water to keep all the inhabitants of the planet alive. This is what Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, the French environmentalist Nicolas Hulot and Giuliano Amato shall be talking about, and the journalist Monica Maggioni shall be moderating over the debate.
A visit to the Holy See Pavilion
The participated theme "Not By Bread Alone” is evocated through the biblical phrase "Give us this day our daily bread" along the outer walls of The Holy See Pavilion in 13 languages After entering the yellow tent at the entrance of the exhibition space, all condensed into a single pavilion, the visitor is immediately impressed with the artistic beauty. On the opposite wall is the original canvas of the Last Supper by Tintoretto. Central to the visit is the huge table in the center of the room, a multimedia surface on which images are projected of all the contexts of everyday life for which a table is used.
National Day and other appointments conceived for Expo Milano 2015
The main events conceived for Expo Milano 2015 for the exhibition semester are grouped into four areas: "Expo 2015 National Days", "Expo 2015 International days for the Milan Charter", "Women for Expo”, “Expo 2015 Festivals".
