TheGerman National Day opened at the Expo Centre, with the flag-raising ritual and the Italian and German national anthems. The ceremony was attended byIris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sandro Gozi, Undersecretary of State responsible for European Affairs and Policiesand theGeneral Commissioner of Expo 2015 Bruno Pasquino.

 

Bee Active, an invitation to be even more united

 

“The German Pavilion is one of the most visited in this virtuous competition among  the participating Countries - began Undersecretary Gozi -. The Bee Active motto is both an invitation and a challenge designed to involve all visitors. Italy and Germany are participating in the Universal Exposition to continue pursuing the common challenge to obtain a more sustainable fair world, in a location that favors cooperation and solidarity; sustainability and fairness that are the values that have been appropriately summarized in the Milan Charter. Expo Milano 2015 therefore provides a great opportunity for Italy to continue this dialogue with Germany".

 

The importance of meeting on crucial themes

 

On her part, Iris Gleike offered her congratulations on the beauty of the Universal Exposition and mentioned the great love that the Germans have for Italy, in particular for Italian food and music. "We sometimes get the feeling that the internet can replace everything, but Expo Milano 2015 shows that on crucial themes such as the battle against global hunger it is important for civilizations to find a way to meet each other in person”. The celebrations continued with two musical performances:the Student Choir of the German School of Milanand the jazz singerRoger Cicero, accompanied on the piano byMaik Schott brightened up the morning for those present, including ,   Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015. The German delegation paraded along the Decumano, stopping to visit the German Pavilion before moving onto the Italian Pavilion, where Iris Gleicke met representatives of the Italian Government.

 

The afternoon events and the gala evening

 

The day dedicated to Germany continued in Expo Milano 2015 at the German Pavilion with the showing of the film "25 years of German Reunion”, games, performances and live concerts with the group "Ghost pop" SEΛ + ΛIR, the Choir of the German School of Milan and the DJ set – chillout music.

In the evening a gala dinner was held in the elegant setting of Villa Erba, on Lake Como.
