A large party on bicycles unveiledVia d’Acqua Nord(North Water Way), which links theVilloresi CanalwithExpo Milano 2015. The irrigation canal is, in fact, now flanked by a bicycle path more than 8 kilometres long that goes throughGroane Parkand connects north-west Milan withExpo Milano 2015.
“You set a record: you are the first to come toExpo Milano 2015on bicycles,” beganGiuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner Delegated by the Government for Expo Milano 2015, welcoming the numerous (more than 700) participants in the ride.
“Via d'Acqua Nord,”Sala continued, “is a great material legacy from the World Expo to the city of Milan and its adjoining towns, as is the Boathouse that the Milanese are enjoying so much. Expo Milan 2015 has done its part, but very important contributions came from the managers of the municipalities involved in the project, as well as Groane Park and the Villoresi Consortium”.
All together for the ribbon-cutting: Expo Centre
More than 700 cyclists came from the towns of Arese, Bollate, Garbagnate, Lainate, Rho and Pero and assembled atCascina Radio, where the official opening of the bicycle path was performed with the cutting of the ribbon byGiuseppe Sala, along with the president of the East Ticino Villoresi Consortium,Alessandro Folli.Then the group, led by the Sole Commissioner, snaked its way to the site ofExpo Milan 2015in a happy procession to the Expo Centre.
There, the mayors of Arese,Michela Palestra; Bollate,Francesco Vassallo; Garbagnate Milanese,Pier Mauro Pioli; Lainate,Alberto Landonio; Rho,Pietro Romanoand the assessor of Community Relations for the Municipality of Pero,Serena La Placa, attended the inaugural ceremony and made sure to emphasize the importance of this work commissioned in cooperation withExpo 2015to revitalize the area, both environmentally and economically.
The cyclists were offered a chance to attend Expo at a special price of 10 euros after leaving their bikes at the Risorgimento/Rho Fiera Fs parking area.
