An elegant wine, produced with Calabrian native vines. But the special thing about this wine is not just how fine it is: it also has the distinction of having been offered to the Pope during his Alitalia flight from Rome to Sarajevo on June 6, during his apostolic visit in support of inter-religious dialogue. Today, at the Coldiretti Pavilion, in a free wine tasting event, the Riserva Salvatore Lento 2010 was offered to visitors with a sommelier’s guidance… a taste of ‘the Pope’s wine’.
“This is an opportunity to taste a superb Calabrian wine, the result of meticulous attention to detail and a long history”, explained Francesco Cosentini, regional director of Coldiretti Calabria. “Despite being a mature wine, it is sweet and pleasurable on the palate, with just the right degree of tannins. I invite visitors to come and discover wines from Calabria, whose quality is recognized around the world and which, thanks to Expo Milano 2015, are winning over more and more hearts and palates.”
The Riserva Salvatore Lento 2010 is produced by Cantine Lento using Magliocco, Greco Nero and Nerello grapes. On the nose it unfurls a delicate and enfolding aroma, while the taste is smooth and well-balanced, with undertones of toasted coffee and bitter cocoa. Spicy allusions endow the wine with an assertive personality. It makes a persuasive partner for game or for succulent first courses such as fileja, a handmade pasta cut with wire, and ‘nduja a soft cured meat with a piquant taste.
